Eremocene
Written and performed by Erso:

Oh, would be easy to fall
But all that tethers me in place
As voices make their choice against the sky
Left a song to linger as I
Oh, it would be easy to go
But all that I love still holds me so
Whatever I must care for in my home
Is never to let me alone
And all I can do is wonder
As one by one they leave
In this age of loneliness
In silence lies their grief
And oh, for the dreys within the trees
And oh, for the crashes that once were
As voices make their noise against a cry
Left a song to linger as I
And all I can do is wonder
As one by one they leave
And in this age of loneliness
In silence lies their plea

Eremocene is a term suggested by E.O. Wilson as an alternative to Anthropocene, which is the word used to define our current geological era. Eremocene means ‘The Age of Loneliness’, acknowledging the loss of life that we are experiencing as a symptom of the Sixth Mass Extinction that is currently underway. It asks us to reflect on all other life that shares this planet with us, broadening our sphere of empathy from people to planet.
