Built a Nest
Written and performed by Erso:

I spun this web myself
Not to trap you
Just to show you all my silky art
You’ll see the shapes of my gallery
Framed by leaves and varnished in morning dew
I grew extra arms to hold you
arms to hold you
I built a nest of bricks and sticks and shiny things I thought you’d like
Your dance drew me closer and we’ll be here for a while
Sharing this cozy home.
My feathered cape will keep us cloaked till morning
Cloaked till morning
My legs are strong. I’ll stay right here.
Climb up to meet me
Fingers like questions curl like swirls;
Form circles to hold the light.
My hair twists down like roots to ground me
Roots to ground me
~~~
I Built a Nest explores and reimagines the lives of different creatures in order to better relate and empathize with them. For example, rather than spiders being spooky cobweb-making hunters, maybe they’re just trying to show off their webbed works of art. And their many legs aren’t scary, they just make spiders all the better huggers!
