Artist Bio
Curtis Wright is an emerging Canadian composer inspired by music for media and contemporary classical music alike, fusing the evocative visual inspiration of film scoring with contemporary techniques. Recent premieres include a new orchestral work for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at the 2019 Winnipeg New Music Festival, a suite for the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble as its composer-in-residence 2018-19, and a collaborative student opera for the University of Toronto Opera Program.
Curtis’ music has been performed by the Penderecki String Quartet, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, as well as in studio and at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York. Curtis has completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Toronto, with degrees in composition from Wilfrid Laurier University (B.Mus) and New York University (M.Mus) where he received the Elmer Bernstein Award for excellence in film scoring. Curtis has studied with composers Christos Hatzis, Norbert Palej, Alexander Rapoport, Mark Suozzo, Glenn Buhr, and Linda Caitlin Smith.
