Music and Lyrics: Glenn Buhr
He wails out the song like there’s too much to lose,
He feels the times changin’ deep in the blues,
He’s a one-man band.
He sings stories of his wanderings, and the tough of his lonely life,
The old heroes abide in his bones,
He should’ve been born in a better time.
He grabs the trapeze and he takes to the sky,
He flies, and sings a circus lie,
He’s an Olympian man.
For the love of Christ, he lies again; his angry women take the stand,
He illuminates and celebrates them with his circus lies,
He should’ve been born in a better time.
How many lies will we listen to?
(Is the singing really so sweet?)
How will we know what to think, and do,
When the tyrants fall and the circus lies rise?
He wails out the song like there’s too much to lose,
Mixing bible stories with newspaper news,
He’s a one-man band.
For the love of Christ, he lies again, and he trades his prayer for a lesser sin,
The old prophets shine in his bones,
He should’ve been born in a better time.
