i love you (is a thing you say about yourself) (2:44)

--:-- / --:--

i love you (is a thing you say about yourself)

how hungry I am
eating at yr table
the food is foreign
& i blame you for my hunger
ashamed of my body
the edges where I end
you would be too good for me
thirst my only instinct
so i drink the sea water
that runs thru yr veins
wine is my talent
& drinking, my occupation
when the music stopped
i woke up laughing
the flesh & dreams of many creatures
pressing me all over

this is something to ask the angels
why living is so funny
when one is persistent
even in pain
it’s a delight to let go
see you are a scarecrow in the distance
standing in the rain
signs of battle all around us
i fought so hard to prove
yr the only one
armies & other lovers dead in the summer shower
i’m proud of my self-effacement
first by devotion, then by promiscuity
spending yr value in many currencies
my bones are sleeping with the bones of the dead
i hide behind the curtain while i lie in their company
in the dark their eyes are open
voice of the coyote or the wolf or geese flying over
take comfort, you with children’s voices
smile in the black night,
it’s never long, it’s never long before we’re risen
& remember our grace, to have hidden
more than can ever be sung
